Responding to Theresa May's announcement to Tory MPs that she will stand down before the next phase of Brexit negotiations and comments from the First Minister suggesting the case for independence will be boosted by a Brexiteer PM, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie said:

"It was inevitable that at some point the Prime Minister would have to go. Now we need a change of approach from the Conservative party rather than just a change in leader.

"Any Brexit deal is a bad choice for Scotland. That's why we are campaigning for a People's Vote and an exit from Brexit.

"Nicola Sturgeon doesn't seem to have learned anything from Brexit. She should see that breaking up a political union inevitably leads to chaos and confusion."
