Responding to the news that 638 operations were cancelled in January for capacity or non-clinical reasons, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP commented:

"More than 600 patients and their families have endured the stress and hassle of an operation cancelled through no fault of their own.

"The SNP promised to properly staff our NHS. There is no part of the service which is not now coming under pressure."

In January 2019, 638 (2.2%) were cancelled by the hospital due to capacity or non-clinical reasons.

Capacity or non-clinical reasons can include beds, staff or equipment being unavailable or theatre sessions overrunning.

ISD Scotland recorded a total of 2,790 cancelled operations in January 2019. The statistics can be found here.
