Responding to the findings of a new study by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health that says the profession "is on the brink of a recruitment crisis", Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP said:

"This is a blatant crisis call. Children's health services will suffer if the SNP ignores these serious warnings about the scarcity of children's doctors in Scotland.

"The SNP's short-sighted workforce planning has left doctors and nurses picking up the slack across the NHS. Staff in GP surgeries, A&E rooms and the care sector are under unimaginable pressure and now the future of children's health care is in peril.

"The SNP Government's complacency led to the current NHS staffing crisis and every one of its plans to remedy it have been months behind schedule. Doctors have every right to demand better."
