Following news that Police Scotland will initiate further investigations into claims that documents were destroyed after potential mismanagement was discovered in the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency, Scottish Liberal Democrat justice spokesperson Liam McArthur commented:

"These allegations are extraordinarily serious. Burning documents doesn't look good and doesn't inspire public confidence in our police.

"Police Scotland shouldn't waste any time establishing the facts. It needs to take action to restore trust.

"An external investigation may well be necessary."
