Responding to comments from the Scottish Police Federation that the Scottish Government is "not funding the police service adequately", Scottish Liberal Democrat justice spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP said:

"Officers are warning that cases are being put on the backburner because the resources to investigate them are just not there.

"The SNP's disastrous centralisation of policing, and the resulting loss of thousands of skilled civilian staff, dragged officers off the beat. The national force's budget has been in the red year after year.

"Liberal Democrats demand better. Officers and staff must have the resources and support they need to do their jobs."
