Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP has expressed frustration at new statistics which reveal A&E waiting times are back "on a downward trajectory". Performance against the 4-hour waiting time target has fallen to 90.9%.

The weekly figures published by ISD Scotland show 153 patients waited over 8 hours. 20 patients waited over 12 hours.

Mr Cole-Hamilton said:

"It's frustrating to see A&E performance continue on this downward trajectory.

"NHS staff work supremely hard but there is only so much we can ask of them. The onus is on Scottish Government ministers to ensure they have the resources they need to do their jobs.

"On the Health Secretary's watch, the A&E waiting time target hasn't been met for the best part of a year. She needs to take responsibility and ease the strain on our health service."
