Commenting ahead of the release of the SNP's Growth Commission report, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie said:

"Our Parliament and Government should be focused on positive change. There is nothing hopeful or optimistic about inflicting yet more division and economic risk on our country by separating us from the UK. The SNP should learn from the chaos of separating us from Europe with Brexit. On the back of Brexit, Independence would be a negative and damaging development.

"The alternative is to focus on driving positive change and improvement in public services and the economy by investing in the talents and skills of people. That means investing in services like mental health and early years. That positive drive should be the focus of our parliament and government rather than yet another divisive push for independence.

"The SNP should drop their plans for independence."
