Speaking after the integration of the British Transport Police (BTP) into Police Scotland was considered by the Justice Committee this morning, Liberal Democrat justice spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP commented:

"BTP integration has cost more than a million so far and it's anybody's guess what the overall expenditure might end up.

"There's no business case for this politically motivated merger and the failures we've seen in its planning are hauntingly reminiscent of the botched centralisation of Police Scotland. Serving BTP officers and staff have no idea what the future holds.

"This needs halted now."
