Responding to a new Scottish Government report suggesting that 38% of Scottish children could be in relative poverty by 2030/31, Scottish Liberal Democrat social security spokesperson Caron Lindsay commented:

"It is scandalous that almost 4 in 10 children could soon be in poverty.

"The best way to lift people out of poverty and reduce inequality is through investing in their talents and wellbeing. We need to ensure that we have the best education system in the world to help people get on in life.

"Of course, we also need social security changes across the entire UK. It is time to end the Tories' cold-hearted approach which is pushing more and more people into hardship. Meanwhile, the Scottish Government needs to use its new powers to establish a welfare system that is accessible and fair."
