Responding to the latest Fraser of Allander report setting out the backdrop to the forthcoming budget, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie said:

"Scottish Liberal Democrats are putting forward serious and forward looking proposals to tackle falling productivity and the erratic Scottish economy by investing in people, through education and mental health.

"Investing in education through projects such as an expanded pupil premium, increased early years' provision and investment in colleges allows us to open up new economic opportunities and build a highly skilled, high wage economy for the future.

"Meanwhile investment in mental health by delivering new staff and facilities will transform the way we treat mental ill health and help thousands more to get back to their jobs and their studies. Not only will this deliver a boost to the Scottish economy, but catching people early will have long term benefits for the sustainability of public services."
