Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP today said long waits in A&E are unacceptable as new figures revealed that the 4 hour waiting time target was missed for almost 1800 patients.

This week's figures from ISD Scotland also show the highest number of patients waiting over 12 hours since March and that NHS Lothian has recorded its worst A&E performance for more than a year.

Mr Cole-Hamilton said:

"These figures show that hundreds patients every week are still not being seen in time.

"When you are in pain and need to see a medical professional, 12 hours is just too long to be waiting.

"Scottish Government ministers need to ensure that our hardworking A&E staff have the support and resources they need to deliver the best care for patients."
