Responding to reports in the Sunday Herald that the Scottish Government are considering plans to give students a guaranteed income of £8000, Scottish Liberal Democrat education spokesperson Tavish Scott MSP said:

"The SNP have been in power for a decade. They promised to end student debt and have done the opposite.

"Young people from disadvantaged backgrounds are worse off in Scotland than England.

"So whatever is announced can only be an improvement on this lamentable record."
