Responding to the appointment of Kenneth Hogg as the new chief executive of the Scottish Police Authority (SPA), Scottish Liberal Democrat justice spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP said:

"Mr Hogg inherits an organisation in crisis. Over the past year the SPA has faced a steady stream of bad news, from accusations surrounding its culture of secrecy to dysfunctional managerial relationships.

"It is essential that the new Chief Executive get to grips with these challenges and ensures that every part of both the SPA and Police Scotland can command the public's trust and confidence in future."
