Responding to Nicola Sturgeon's comments ahead of the SNP conference kicking off, Scottish Liberal Democrat general election campaign chair and Edinburgh Western MSP Alex Cole-Hamilton said:

"After losing so many seats at the general election, Nicola Sturgeon should rule out another independence referendum.

"The SNP have stage managed this conference to avoid embarrassing Nicola Sturgeon over the loss of seats brought about by her insistence on an unwanted and unwelcome second independence referendum."

"Regardless of whether it is on the conference agenda, everyone knows what the SNP put first and it isn't health, education or public services."
