Scot Lib Dems: Care sector is in a state of crisis

Responding to reports from Age Scotland that a shortage of social care workers is putting service users at high risk, Scottish Liberal Democrat social care spokesperson Karen Clark said:

"The nationwide shortage of social care staff is having a real impact on people's lives. People across Scotland aren't getting the help that they need to be able to live and remain in their homes. To make matters worse, at any one time around 1,000 patients are stuck in hospital because the support they need in the community just doesn't exist.

"The SNP's lack of planning means NHS and social care are already facing a national staffing crisis. This will only get worse if Theresa May continues to pursue an extreme Brexit that will rob Scotland's health and social care services of the staff they need.

"As well as ending the public sector pay freeze and a guarantee that EU nationals can stay here, we need a robust and coherent workforce strategy to prevent future shortages."
