Scottish Liberal Democrat MSP Liam McArthur today warned that pressure is building on the Scottish Government to address concerns in the fire service after representatives of the Fire Brigades Union Scotland warned a Scottish Parliament committee that the SNP's centralisation of the fire service "absolutely is impacting on the frontline."

Mr McArthur said:

"The fire service are telling us that they are hamstrung by a lack of resources and the decision to cut valuable civilian expertise. Many of the benefits of centralisation that ministers promised simply haven't materialised. The Scottish Government can't ignore this any longer.

"The SNP must recognise that their gung-ho pursuit of centralisation has had a human cost and commit to giving our hardworking emergency services the support they need."
