Speaking in response to the publication of the Education and Skills Committee report on teacher workforce planning, Scottish Liberal Democrat education spokesperson Tavish Scott MSP said:

"Teachers say Education Scotland do not recognise the workload challenges in the class room that are putting able people off the profession. Therefore, it is extraordinary that the Scottish Government have rewarded this quango with more powers and influence over teachers in the governance review.

"Education Scotland were responsible for the 20,000 pages of guidance that bogged down teachers attempts to make Curriculum for Excellence work. So the idea that Education Scotland should be responsible for both inspecting schools and issuing policy guidance is wrong. Yet that is what Ministers are forcing through in the face of parliamentary opposition."
