Responding to the deal that has been announced between the Conservatives and the DUP, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie MSP said:

"This deal may prop up Theresa May's premiership in the short term but it will have damaging long term effects on the country.

"To side with one of the parties in Northern Ireland could undermine the peace process.

"Instead of securing a narrow agreement to deliver a hard damaging Brexit the Prime Minister should be reaching out to secure a cross party understanding on Europe.

"Theresa May has once again put her party ahead of our country."
