Responding to the news that the first female pastor in the Arab Christian world, Reverend Rola Sleiman, has been refused entry to the UK to attend the Church of Scotland's General Assembly, Scottish Liberal Democrat deputy leader, Church of Scotland elder and candidate for Orkney and Shetland Alistair Carmichael said:

"This decision to refuse Rola Sleiman a visa is an absolute outrage. Is this the country Theresa May wants us to be?

"Reverend Sleiman has dedicated her life to Christianity in the most challenging circumstances imaginable and now she is treated like this.

"It's clear that the Conservatives are still the nasty party."
