Speaking in response to remarks from Nicola Sturgeon on GMS this morning, the leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats Willie Rennie said:

"The First Minister's attempt to downplay her independence referendum on GMS this morning is just bare-faced desperation.

"The SNP have told everyone for a whole year they are 'cast iron' in their determination for a new divisive referendum on independence. So it is absurd for them to try to hide it now.

"The SNP know that more and more people have caught them taking their eye off the ball on education standards and mental health services. The Nats are distracted by their campaign for independence and people are suffering the results."
