Responding to new figures from the Scottish Chamber of Commerce and Fraser of Allander Institute showing continued subdued economic performance, higher prices and declining investment in the early part of this year, Scottish Liberal Democrat economy spokesperson Cllr Carolyn Caddick said:

"These new statistics confirm our patchy economic performance, coming after official figures showed Scotland is on the brink of another recession while the rest of the UK grows.

"Scotland needs both its governments focused on protecting jobs, investing in skills and building a high-wage, high-skill economy, not cheerleading for a disruptive independence referendum or a disastrous hard Brexit.

"The best thing we can do for businesses in Scotland is to keep Scotland in the UK and the UK in the EU. Liberal Democrats stand with the majority opinion and are relishing the chance to change the direction of the whole UK at this general election."
