Rennie: SNP using Brexit to spark grievance

Following the UK Government's response to the SNP's Europe paper, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie said:

"Scottish Liberal Democrats have always argued that this paper was about generating grievance for another independence referendum, not about setting out a compromise.

"For the SNP, independence is first and everything else comes second. It is clear the SNP are only using Brexit for their own ends. Under the SNP we could face a Scotland out of both single markets which would be a disaster.

"However there is hope for those that want the UK in the EU. Both Donald Tusk and a new European Parliament report today have suggested that Article 50 is reversible. The SNP should now join our campaign to give the British people the final say on whatever deal Theresa May negotiates.

"This is the best way to keep the whole UK in the EU."
