Scottish Liberal Democrat business manager Mike Rumbles MSP has today warned that the SNP need a "laser-like focus" on improving services after a new survey showed falling public trust in the Scottish Government's ability to work in the country's best interests.

The Scottish Social Attitudes Survey 2016 showed that the percentage of people that trust the Scottish Government to make fair decisions has fallen and suggested that the Scottish Government's highest priority should be helping the economy grow faster.

Mr Rumbles said:

"This survey recognises that the Scottish Government has enormous influence over the way this country is run and shows that people are desperate for the SNP to get back to the day job.

"Their independence obsession has resulted in fewer people trusting them to make fair decisions and act in Scotland's best interest.

"Rather than push for another divisive independence referendum, the SNP need a laser-like focus on improving the services people rely upon, Improving health, education and the economy should be the priority not another bid to break up the country.

"While the First Minister is distracted by independence, Scottish Liberal Democrats will use our parliamentary debate next week to hold the SNP to account on the issues that matter like the economy and education."
