Responding to the increase in unemployment, Scottish Liberal Democrat economy spokesperson Cllr Carolyn Caddick said:

"It is concerning to see unemployment rise in Scotland while it falls in the rest of the UK. With the SNP upping the rhetoric on independence and the Tories jumping off a hard Brexit cliff the Scottish economy is suffering from a double whammy of uncertainty.

"Liberal Democrats have been clear that the long term route out of this is significant investment in education and skills. That way we can secure a high wage, high skilled economy fit for the future."
