Speaking in response to the increase in unemployment in Scotland announced today Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie said: "The SNP cannot run away from the fact that unemployment in Scotland is rising when it is falling in the rest of the UK.

"The SNP are spending too long fighting their constitutional battles and not enough effort on a decent economic plan for jobs.

"The Scottish Government underspent its budget, including on important capital building projects, by an eye-watering £340million last year.

"And only yesterday Liberal Democrats highlighted the growing concerns for the marine renewables industry. Scottish ministers simply aren't taking all of the practical steps they should to support jobs in the sector.

"SNP ministers really need to focus on Scottish jobs to turn around this really worrying trend."
