Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie MSP has said that Liberal Democrats are building a stronger economy and a fairer society after new employment figures published today showed that a record 2.6million Scots are in work, with unemployment continuing to fall.

Commenting, Mr Rennie said:

"This shows that with lower taxes, higher pensions, new jobs and more childcare, Liberal Democrats in the UK government are creating the right conditions for stable and lasting economic growth. With a record 2.6 million people in work in Scotland, we can take confidence that we are building a stronger economy and a fairer society through driving down the numbers of those out of work.

"This is positive progress which has been delivered as a result of Scotland remaining in the UK. If we are to enable more people to get on in life, both of Scotland's governments must work together to deliver more jobs and growth. I hope that Scotland's new First Minister will recognise these achievements and seek to build on them instead of seeking differences."
