Leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats Willie Rennie MSP has saidWillie RennieWillie Renniethat a UK-wide campaign launched today for Scotland to remain in the UK, Let's Stay Together, is a reminder of the common bond of culture and history shared by people across the UK family of nations.

An open letter published by the campaign today has already received over 8,000 signatures, many of whom are known for achievements in sports, academia, music and comedy.

Commenting on the letter, Mr Rennie said:

"Whilst the referendum is a decision for people living in Scotland, this list of signatories is a reminder of the common bond of culture and history we have with people across the UK family of nations. This matters not because some of those on the list are well kent faces, but because people like Sir Stephen Hawkings and Sir Steve Redgrave have benefitted from the opportunities which have been unlocked by working together.

"From Cardiff to Manchester to Glasgow, and from sports to music to the arts, our interwoven past is a foundation for building a stronger future together. This is why Scottish Liberal Democrats want to see a stronger Scotland within UK. By working together we can have the best of both worlds, sharing the risks and the rewards which come from being part of something better."
