Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie has said that a report,Willie RennieWillie Rennie Debt and Destiny, published today by the Scotland Institute, confirms the benefits to Scotland of remaining in the UK.

Commenting, Mr Rennie said:

"This report confirms that we are better off in the United Kingdom with better credit ratings and lower borrowing costs. We often take the benefits of the United Kingdom for granted but this report draws on expert, professional opinion which recognises the overwhelmingly upsides of our partnership in the family of nations.

"It is no surprise that markets will be more wary of a new nation with no track record on the world financial stage. This means they would therefore charge more to lend us the billions of Scottish pounds we would need to deliver public services and infrastructure.

"Leaving the UK is a risky step into the dark that we don't need to take. With a stronger Scottish Parliament which shapes its own domestic agenda whilst sharing across the UK we can have the best of both worlds."
