Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Jim Hume MSP has said Jim Hume MSPJim Hume MSPthat the recommendations of Lord Bonomy's Infant Cremation Commission require whole-hearted commitment from local authorities as well as the Scottish Government.

The report published today made 64 recommendations which included a review of cremation practices. The public health minister also announced the creation of a National Investigation Team.

Mr Hume said the many families affected deserved every agency involved working to find answers and learn lessons.

Mr Hume said:

"This has been a harrowing ordeal for the many families who have learnt that their lives and loved ones have been touched by this national scandal.

"It is disappointing that some organisations or local authorities implicated have not taken matters into their own hands after first learning of concerns about some crematoria practice many months ago. The implementation of Lord Bonomy's recommendations require the whole-hearted committed of local authorities, government ministers and all agencies involved.

"The families affected deserve every agency working to find answers and learn lessons. This must include co-operating with the new national investigation team."
