Commenting on reports that the First Minister is to meet with representatives of the Ukrainian community after his controversial praise for President Putin, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie MSP said:

"Alex Salmond remains obstinate in the face of almost universal criticism of his praise of President Putin. There is little point in meeting the Ukraine Community in Scotland unless he provides that reasonable request from them - an apology. It's not much considering the damage he has done but even that seems beyond our First Minister.

"Whilst there are thousands who are suffering at the hands of President Putin our First Minister thinks it appropriate to admire him rather than send a powerful message to him. Alex Salmond still does not understand the damage his has done."
