Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Jim Hume MSP hasJim HumeJim Hume expressed sympathy with the many families affected by the Mortonhall Investigation Report published by Edinburgh City Council today.

Mr Hume has now urged the Scottish Government to ensure that the far-reaching implications of the report are learnt with permanence.

Mr Hume said:

"Dame Elish Angiolini's report is a heart-breaking juncture in what is a four decade long tragedy for the many parents and families affected. My thoughts are with those families today. Their welfare must be the immediate priority of both the City of Edinburgh Council and the Scottish Government as it considers the many thorough recommendations of this report.

"The recommendations and findings of this harrowing report have far-reaching implications for the whole of Scotland. If we are to ensure that all lessons are learnt and with permanence, the Scottish Government must provide the Infant Cremation Commission with the fullest of support to allow it to implement its recommendations without hindrance."
