Willie Rennie MSP today said that Scottish Liberal Democrat by-Jade HoldenJade Holdenelection candidate Jade Holden is the right person to deliver for Cowdenbeath at the Scottish Parliament.

Mr Rennie was speaking ahead of the launch of Ms Holden's campaign at Rascals Nursery in Cowdenbeath.

Mr Rennie and Ms Holden's visit follows the announcement earlier this week that Ministers are set to act on Liberal Democrat calls for an expansion of free childcare for two year old children.

Willie Rennie MSP said:

"Liberal Democrat pressure has delivered free childcare for thousands of young children across Scotland.

"This will directly benefit families and children in Cowdenbeath and across the constituency. It will help children with good quality, early education and also help more parents get back to work. It's a double win for families.

"Liberal Democrats are already delivering these plans in England. Now, after persistent pressure from us, we have secured a change of heart from the Scottish Government.

"With a Liberal Democrat MSP you'll get someone who'll stick up for Cowdenbeath and deliver real change in Parliament.

"Jade Holden will be a breath of fresh air in Parliament. She is the strong voice that Cowdenbeath needs to help me ensure that Fife can share in the progress on jobs, the economy and childcare that Liberal Democrats have delivered in government and at Holyrood."

Commenting, Jade Holden added:

"The benefits of quality early years care are clear. Providing more nursery places for 2 year olds is good for children, good for families and - with more parents able to return to work - good for our local economy. That is why Liberal Democrats in government have led a massive expansion of free care for 2 year old children in England.

"After months and months of pressure from Willie Rennie the SNP finally caught on and followed the Liberal Democrat lead. Local parents should not forget that just last week the First Minister claimed that he could not help families in Scotland until after the referendum.

"This is a good start but we know there is more work that needs to be done. Our plan to extend free care to 40% of two year olds would help around 1700 children across Fife.

"That is the sort of action that Cowdenbeath needs at Holyrood. As an MSP I would help Willie Rennie deliver for people here and always put my constituents' needs ahead of the constitutional debate."
