McArthur and Smith comment on offshore helicopter safety review

Commenting on the news that the Civil Aviation Authority is to reviewLiam McArthurLiam McArthur offshore helicopter operations, Orkney MSP Liam McArthur said,

"I am very pleased to hear that the CAA has decided to review North Sea helicopter operations. While this announcement has been widely anticipated, it is still very welcome following a spate of recent incidents involving helicopters operating in the North Sea.

"There is now a need to ensure that the review is as wide ranging as possible, including proper consideration of operating practices elsewhere in the world, not least in the Norwegian sector.

"Those involved in our oil and gas industry, particularly those working offshore, need confidence that lessons will be learned for the future and that health and safety is absolutely paramount."
