"There are some well-respected figures on this group. But it smacks of disrespect from the Scottish Government for Ministers to say that they will plough on and publish their white paper on independence before the experts get chance to finish their work.

"After all, it is forty years since the SNP invented slogans about oil. You would have thought they would have got their act together before now.

"Only a fortnight ago, the SNP were forced into an embarrassing admission that they had fiddled the future oil jobs figures in a parliamentary answer.

"Reading the small print of today's announcement it's clear that the full paper from the oil and gas experts will be another glaring omission from the SNP government's White Paper."
