Commenting on the opposition day debate on college waiting lists,Liam McArthurLiam McArthur Scottish Liberal Democrat education spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP said:

"For months the Education Secretary seemed prepared to deny the existence of college waiting lists. Mr Russell even argued that waiting lists were "a false concept".

"But a college waiting list by any other name would still represent a missed opportunity.

"Now that the Scottish Funding Council has revealed that students are missing out on a college education due to a lack of places, the Education Secretary must accept this and apologise to our colleges, their staff and students.

"Every single student languishing on a waiting list or refused a place due to an oversubscribed course represents a missed opportunity. Scottish Liberal Democrats want a stronger economy in fairer society, which is why the Scottish Government must reverse its planned £34.6 million cuts to college budgets."
