Speaking in response to comments in a BBC interview by Blair Jenkins from the independence campaign, the leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats Willie Rennie MSP said:

"Blair Jenkins is living on a planet, it's a shame it's not this one. No financial crisis, no recession, no problems, nothing bad happens - ever. That's Blair Jenkins fantasy about an independent Scotland. Life is a bit more complex than that and he knows it.

"Many of the decisions that led to the banking crisis were made right here in Scotland. Of course there are many small, successful countries. It's just not normal to break up a modern successful country in order to become small.

"Scotland is successful as part of the UK with clout in the world, economic strength and good public services. We should keep it that way."
