Commenting on figures detailing racist incidents recorded by the police, Scottish Liberal Democrat justice spokesperson Alison McInnes MSP said:

"In the face of these figures it's all the more important we stand up for the liberal modern Scotland we would all like to live in.

"The increase in reporting racist incidents from witnesses gives us hope that fewer people will turn a blind eye to this despicable behaviour.

"But that doesn't detract from the damage racism causes to our communities. The Scottish Government must work with partners in the community to address racism and hatred - schools, police officers and business owners. With forty percent of male perpetrators of racist incidents under the age of twenty it is clear that targeted campaigns are also urgently needed."
