Leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats, Willie Rennie MSP, has called on Alex Salmond to explain how he will avoid adopting the euro, after the President of the European Commission said an independent Scotland would have to renegotiate its terms of entry to the EU.

Commenting on the interview, Mr Rennie said:

"In negotiations an independent Scotland will have a lot to lose. The President has made clear his view that an independent Scotland would have to reapply for entry.

"Alex Salmond has to explain how he will avoid adopting the euro, how he will keep the rebate and maintain open borders with rest of the UK - that could be the high price Scotland pays in any negotiations."
