SNP must clear up confusion over centralised police force

Commenting on calls from the Association of Scottish Police Superintendents for an "outbreak of common sense" on who will be in charge of Scotland's new centralised police force, Scottish Liberal Democrat Justice spokesperson Alison McInnes MSP said:

"The First Minister and his Justice Secretary have failed to grasp the seriousness of senior police officers not knowing who is in charge of the centralised police force.

"By describing the power struggle as 'creative tension', Alex Salmond flippantly dismissed real concerns that the new Chief Constable will not have full operational control of policing.

"The SNP government must clear up this confusion. We urgently need a resolution that protects the independence of the Chief Constable and Scotland's police."
