John Swinney confirmed this morning on BBC Radio Scotland's Good Morning Scotland programme that he allowed the First Minister to mislead Parliament on college funding levels.

Commenting following the Finance Secretary's interview, Liberal Democrat Education Spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP said:

"John Swinney is normally very active in advising the First Minister during the heat of debate but on this occasion he egged the First Minister on even though he knew he was misleading Parliament.

"The Finance Secretary confirmed this morning that he declined to correct Alex Salmond when he used dodgy college funding figures during First Minister's Questions last week. He also told radio listeners that he knew the figures were wrong.

"Confidence in the Finance Secretary is essential and this could damage John Swinney's credibility just as we enter important budget negotiations."
