Commenting on the Scottish Government Debate on Common Agricultural Policy, Scottish Liberal Democrat rural affairs spokesperson Jim Hume MSP said:

"Reform of CAP will impact all of rural Scotland, not just those working directly in farming or forestry. It is essential that the Scottish Government works on all levels - EU as well as Westminster - to secure the best deal for Scotland.

"The Cabinet Secretary must use every opportunity to set out clearly the Scottish Government's priorities for reform.

"Only last week the European Commissioner hinted that regional approaches to CAP may be considered. I would urge Richard Lochhead to engage fully in negotiations with the EU as a devolved administration."
