Commenting after Alex Salmond fails to deny offering to contact Jeremy Hunt over BskyB and refuses to make an urgent statement to the Scottish Parliament, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie MSP said:

"By refusing to deny it, Mr Salmond has effectively confirmed that he was prepared to call Jeremy Hunt to 'smooth the way'.

"This makes it even more important that he comes before the Scottish Parliament to explain himself.

"He has already sullied the position of First Minister. By refusing to come before MSPs he is now showing contempt for Parliament."
