Police and fire reform 'shambolic'

Commenting, as the UK Government confirms that the new national Scottish police and fire service will not be eligible for VAT refunds worth more £30 million, Scottish Liberal Democrat Justice spokesperson Alison McInnes MSP said:

"The Scottish Government's approach to the reorganisation of the new police and fire service in Scotland has been shambolic.

"A responsible government would have tried to iron out problems like the VAT issue before they set the date for the new force to begin operations.

"These proposals represent the biggest shake up of Scotland's policing for a generation and many questions still remain, not least on how staff will be affected.

"The Justice Secretary needs to tell us, given the UK Government's announcement, how he is dealing with these vital issues."
