Commenting as the Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee announces an inquiry which will investigate the technological, infrastructure and financial challenges of meeting the targets contained in the Scottish Government's 2020 Routemap for Renewable Energy, Scottish Liberal Democrat Energy spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP said:

Liam McArthur MSPLiam McArthur MSP"The job and wealth creation opportunities for Scotland from fully exploiting its renewables potential are significant. Achieving this will require continued joint working at all levels of government and with industry, academia and others.

"In this context, it is right that we have set ambitious and challenging renewables targets, but we need to know that the Scottish Government is doing what is necessary to achieve them. The Committee's inquiry, following on from one undertaken by its predecessor Committee in the last Parliament, can help in providing this reassurance.

"Setting targets is the easy part. We need to be absolutely sure that we now deliver. The prize for doing so should not be underestimated."
