Commenting as charities across Scotland are given a funding boost aimed at supporting families, Scottish Liberal Democrat Children's spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP said:

"Supporting young children and their families in their early years is critical. All the evidence shows this is the most effective way of enhancing a child's life chances.

"While today's funding announcement is welcome, the amount it will deliver barely scratches the surface of the problems we face in this country.

"Scottish Liberal Democrats have proposed a £250 million Early Years Revolution fund, made possible by releasing £1.5 billion in savings from Scottish Water. This is the sort of investment that is needed to make a real difference.

"Sadly, political dogma stands in the way of the SNP adopting such a radical approach. As a result, they are missing a trick and it is future generations of young Scots who will suffer".
