Commenting on a Save the Children briefing which highlights the cost of childcare in Scotland, Scottish Liberal Democrat Children's spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP said:

"Save the Children has highlighted the struggle that many hard pressed parents face in trying to balance the books to make returning to work pay.

"With costs for all families spiralling across the board, the Scottish Government must consider these findings and do all it can to ensure returning to work is a realistic choice for low income families.

"This will not only help ease the burden on hard pressed families but it is also vital in the fight to break the cycle of poverty in which too many families find themselves trapped."
