SNP need to stop the bulldozer and abandon plans for a single national police force: McInnes

Commenting after attending the Scottish Government's Policing Conference, Scottish Liberal Democrat Justice spokesperson Alison McInnes MSP said:

"It is ridiculous that the Justice Secretary has said that he wants to keep politics out of policing. His preference for a single national police force will ensure that politics will become central to policing. These flawed plans will only erode local accountability and community decision making.

"The Minister made up his mind a long time ago about the future of Scottish policing and has spent the last year refusing to accept the results of his own consultation.

"What is clear from this morning's presentations is that local accountability does suffer when a single police force is brought in. Questions also remain over the alleged savings the SNP claim would be made by a move to a single police force.

"The SNP need to realise the majority of opinion is against them, stop the bulldozer and abandon their plans for a single national police force in Scotland."
