Strong Scottish voice achieved in Europe within the UK family: Rennie

Commenting on the SNP's calls for Scottish Ministers to have the statutory right to be part of UK delegations to European Council of Ministers and other EU meetings, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie MSP said:

"The Liberal Democrats in Government led by Scottish Secretary Michael Moore have already secured and implemented an even better deal for Scotland on EU delegations.

"This didn't require legislation and was implemented immediately. Scottish Ministers have a right to be part of the UK delegations in Europe and at times, Scottish Ministers will be able to lead on key subjects of great importance to Scotland.

"Like the SNP, Scottish Liberal Democrats want a strong Scottish voice in Europe and we have achieved that within the United Kingdom family.

"What the SNP really want is to split Scotland from that UK family. This would weaken Scotland considerably. Separation is a real possibility now. The SNP would be better spelling out the costs of independence."
