Commenting ahead of the expected announcement on the creation of a new Scotland-wide police unit dedicated to tackling sectarianism and other problems at football matches, Liberal Democrat Justice spokesperson Alison McInnes MSP said:

"It is deeply disappointing that Scotland's football matches continue to be marred by sectarian behaviour and football hooliganism.

"These types of behaviour are not welcome in a 21st century Scotland and must be rooted out.

"A joined up, co-ordinated approach is a much better way of tackling these problems than the knee jerk, reactionary legislation put forward by the SNP."
