Jim Hume MSP, Scottish Liberal Democrat MSP for the South of Scotland and Party Spokesperson for Housing, has welcomed the long awaited news that Leuchie House in North Berwick will operate as an independent charity.

The MSP campaigned alongside the Save Leuchie action group to keep the house open.

Jim Hume said:

"There is an absolute and critical need to have a facility like Leuchie in Scotland for the high dependency users who cannot go on conventional holiday breaks because of their complex physical requirements. There is nothing else like it anywhere in Scotland and Leuchie provides invaluable support to guests and their families.

"The Save Leuchie Team, Mairi O'Keefe and her staff and all the other local campaigners, should be congratulated on their tirelessly hard work and dedication which has secured Leuchie's future. They have done a fantastic job and it's to their credit that this wonderful facility will continue to offer respite holidays to people with debilitating conditions and their families."
